If you have been online for at least a few months, you will probably have heard many gurus and web traffic experts tell you to promote your website with article marketing because it is a free marketing technique. Can we really believe this? Can we really say that you can get great results doing “free” article marketing campaigns for your website?
Article marketing is often considered to be a free marketing technique because it drives organic traffic or referral traffic to your website. As you do not have to pay for this traffic, a lot of people immediately think that article marketing is the holy grail of traffic generation because they can do it for free.
The truth is that while it is a fact that you do not have to pay for the traffic you generate, you still have to spend either time or money writing, submitting and promoting your articles. If you do not have money to outsource article writing or article submissions, you will probably have to spend many hours on your campaigns. In this case, article marketing is free in the sense that you will actually be able to promote your site without spending money, but you will not have a lot of time left for other business activities.
And to be honest, unless you have several hours a day to spend on this, you will usually not be able to reach the critical volume that would allow you to success with article marketing. If you are promoting a website with articles, you need to write a lot, you need to submit to many websites, you need to build a lot of backlinks to your articles and promote them a lot. If you are doing everything yourself manually, you will not be able to submit enough articles to make it happen and boost your website in the search engines. This is also why many people who have been sold on the idea that article marketing is free and that submitting a few articles will make them money online end up quitting and saying that article marketing doesn’t work.
Let’s face it, running a business is not free, especially if you want to succeed…It is possible to do everything yourself manually, spend hours and hours on this, and succeed, but the people who have made it this way are exceptions, they are not the rule. You will need to spend some money on your article marketing campaigns if you really want to make things happen and build a real long-term online business. The great thing however about article marketing is that you will not have to spend a fortune. You can really drive traffic to a website using article marketing with a very reasonable budget.
What can you do if you are just starting? First, stop believing that article marketing is free. Then, here is a short article marketing blueprint for you.
- Pick just a few pages of your site that target keywords you want to rank for, and make sure they are not too competitive.
- Start writing articles around those keywords. Commit to writing and submitting one article every single day during a minimum of 3 months. This is key to your success.
- Use some good article submission software to submit to article directories. Bookmark your articles on social bookmarking sites, share them on Twitter and Facebook.
- Once your website starts to rank for the keywords you are targeting, hopefully you will start to make some money. You can reinvest this money in your article marketing.
- Subscribe to an article submission service, or buy a membership to a blog network, or outsource content writing. You can then really scale your promotions and later on your business.
Yes you can succeed with article marketing all by yourself, but the probabilities of success are much higher if you plan to invest in your article marketing promotions from the start or at least start on your own and then reinvest all your profits in your campaigns. Do not let others tell you that you will succeed with free article marketing. They themselves did not succeed that way. They most of the time have spent and are spending a lot of money on their promotions and will continue to do so.
Make sure you do use article marketing to generate website traffic, because it is definitely one of the best methods in terms of efficiency, but be prepared to work hard and invest some money in your promotions.
